WELL related four-year-old gelding Great White finally delivered on the promise he showed as a young horse when he powered home from last to win the Balmoral On York Maiden/Class One handicap over 1600 metres in Launceston today.

Great White showed his trainer Bill Ryan enough as a late two-year-old to suggest he would be competitive but despite having notched five minor placings leading up to today’s outing Ryan was beginning to lose faith in the son of Telesto.

Great White was allowed to drift to the tail of the field by rider Yassy Nishitani and the grey gelding was still last as the field turned for home.

The favourite Ladro loomed as a winning chance along with the well backed Known About Town and outsider Deputy Duke but when Nishitani guided his charge into clear racing room 250 metres out the gelding stormed home to win comfortably from Known About Town and Miss Eye Candy.
