TRAINER Glenn Stevenson has a handy stable of about a dozen horses in work of which one could be heading to Victoria for a race on Melbourne Cup Day.
The Invincible One, that is unbeaten from three starts in Tasmania, is being aimed at a 1400-metre race at Flemington on the first Tuesday in November.
The race is restricted to grey horses that are four or five-year-old and rated between 0-89.
“The greys’ race on Melbourne Cup day is definitely on the radar.”
The Invincible One has yet to tackle the Elwick track but Stevenson said his stable star is likely to tackle an 1100-metre open handicap in Hobart on Sunday week.
“I’ll have a better idea on where we are going after he has his next start in Hobart in a fortnight,” Stevenson said.
Another option for The Invincible One is the Newmarket handicap to be run under lights in Launceston on November 23.
“The Newmarket is the logical alternative to heading to Melbourne, although tackling both races might still be on the cards,” he said.
Night racing moves from Thursday nights to Wednesday nights from next month and all meetings will be broadcast on Sky1.
The night meetings also will boast Sky World coverage on domestic Pay TV that includes live pre and post-race interviews with trainers and jockeys.
The Mowbray meetings during the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival, with the exception of the Launceston Cup meeting, have been moved to Wednesday nights.
