IT has taken Guthrie ages to deliver the goods but at UBET Park Hobart last night the powerfully-built dog finally produced.
Guthrie ($9 into $6.50) began well from box five and after a battle for the lead with first-starter Lochnane Eve (1) and Running Money (4) the Allan Anderson-trained dog forged clear.
The son of Premier Fantasy sped clear turning for home but when Aerohound appeared on the scene it looked for a moment that he might make things interesting.
But when Aerohound came at Guthrie the leader extended his lead and went on to defeat Aerohound by about three lengths with Lochnane Eve just over three lengths away third and just in advance of Bronelly Strike.
Guthrie weighs in at 36 kilograms and towered over most of his rivals and it would appear the penny might have finally dropped with this well-bred dog.
He had managed only three minor placings from 14 starts prior to this latest effort.
Guthrie was bred by North-West Greyhound Racing Club chairmen Leigh Alexander and the dog is one of 10 pups of which three are yet to race.
