TASMANIAN heavyweight jockey Michael Guthrie is likely to return to race riding at the end of next month.
Guthrie has been sidelined since he was thrown from a horse during a track workout at Seven Mile Beach late last month.
He suffered a back injury that at one stage cast a doubt on him returning to race riding within six months.
But he received good news yesterday that the damage to vertebrae in his lower back was not as bad as first thought.
