TONIGHT’s Hobart meeting won’t live up to the lofty heights of last week’s Hobart Thousand program but there are still 10 winners to be found and as usual Ted Medhurst looks set to play a strong hand in proceedings.

On Monday night at Launceston, Tassie’s number one conditioner led home the winner of each of the quaddie legs, including Raging Ralston, kicking off his Launceston Cup preparations with a sizzling 29.49 victory over the 515 metres.

Tonight at Hobart Medhurst is represented in races seven and eight, with early betting suggesting he’s set to improve on his already spectacular 31% winning strike-rate at the track.

In the seventh event, a fifth grade over 461 metres, Medhurst rugs up Pretty Fab and My Desiree from boxes six and seven respectively, early markets quoting the in-form duo at $3 apiece.

Pretty Fab goes into tonight’s affair in terrific form, winning two of her past three appearances. Last time out the daughter of Fabregas lost no admirers with a close-up third to kennelmate Mr. Camacho at Devonport and she looks placed to a nicety this evening.

On the other hand, My Desiree goes into the event off three consecutive fourth placings but returns to Hobart tonight where she’s had the one previous start which resulted in a most impressive 26.15 victory.

And while the Medhurst-trained pair look poised to slug it out tonight, there to spoil the party sitting up in box one is the Nicholas Howard-trained Macca Senor.

Winner of his past two in best of meeting times, including a slashing 19.56 Hobart 340m success last Thursday, the son of El Grand Senor steps back up to the 461m this evening eyeing three wins on the bounce.

The eighth event tonight is expected to see Medhurst again front and centre where from box eight Havilah Kid looks to take a mountain of beating.

The son of My Bro Fabio – a brother to Raging Ralston and Stanley Gordon – has won his past three on end, his most recent a slick 29.91 success at Launceston over the 515 metres on Monday night.

Quoted at around the $2.10 mark for tonight’s eighth event, the seven-time winner looks awfully hard to beat, the closest in betting Young Recruit for Anthony “Bull” Bullock from box four.

Enjoying a good trot recently, the Bullock-trained Young Recruit finished a four-length second to Havilah Kid last start at Devonport.

Betting suggests the consistent performer is a chance of turning around that margin tonight.
