LONGFORD trainer Ian Hay has prepared some top class horses over the years with outstanding mare Dragila arguably the best as she won multiple races at the elite level and has gone on to be a very successful broodmare.
Dragila produced Isibaeva that won multiple feature races including last season’s Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy.
Last year Hay purchased a well-bred gelding from New Zealand in Bideford and he has proven to be a more than handy sprinter with potential to develop into a strong miler (1600m).
In Hobart today Hay produced an unraced two-year-old named Nissky that scored a narrow but impressive win in a trial over 900 metres.
Nissky (Strategic-Lavnova) settled just off the pace with fledgling apprentice Raquel Clark in the saddle.
When Clark eased Nissky to the middle of the track in the home straight the gelding powered home to score by a long neck from experienced filly Colonial Coaster with Walter McShane’s Choisir filly Miss Choosey a length away third.
Hay said Nissky had been given time to mature and that she was some time off racing.
“He is a nice horse that just needs time but I think he’ll measure up,” Hay said.
“We travelled down to Hobart today for the trial because we haven’t had any jump outs on the grass at Longford,” Hay said.
Nissky ran the 900 metres on a soft surface in 1m.01.12s and dashed home his last 600 metres in 36.18s.
