WELL bred three-year-old gelding Head Spinner made amends for an out of character effort in Launceston recently with an emphatic win in a 3YO and upwards maiden over 1150 metres at Tapeta Park in Devonport today (Sunday).

At his previous start Head Spinner finished well own the track at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on a slow to heavy rack which proved unsuitable to the son of El Maggiore.

But back on an even surface on the synthetic at Tapeta Park Head Spinner was able to live up to the expectations of his trainer-owner Leanne Gaffney.

Top jockey Stephen Maskiell had Head Spinner settled third and travelling well behind tearaway leaders Dr Kempinsky and Nerak.

Maskiell eased his charge out three-wide to challenge on the home turn and when called on for the big effort Head Spinner surged clear and went on to defeat Nerak by a half-length with The Producer running on from well back to grab third over two lengths away.

It was Head Spinner’s first win from nine starts but according to Gaffney it won’t be his last.
