14 / 11 / 2011 Article by: Editor
ARMIDALE STUD stallion Helike (USA) sired his first winner on Sunday when Sudden Glory saluted at Devonport.

Trained by John Keys at Wesley Vale, the colt had been narrowly defeated on debut at Elwick on October 2.

Last Sunday he settled second behind the speedy Ambassadora and after looking likely to run second 100 metres out he kept applying pressure to the Star Thoroughbreds filly Ambassadora (Rock Of Gibraltor) and eventually went on to score by more than a length in the Stephen Maskiell Plate (900m).

Sudden Glory is a three-year-old colt (Helike- Skyworth by Hurricane Sky) that was bred by Roger and Lyn Reid of Saundridge Park and they sold him for $8,000 at the 2010 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Launceston.

Keys also bought champion Tasmanian 2YO Triple Asset out of the Armidale draft at the 2010 Magic Millions.

She won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in Launceston and added black-type victories at Flemington and Morphetville.

Sudden Glory is a younger half-brother to Sale winner Spinski (Spinning World).

Their dam Skyworth won races at Cranbourne, Geelong and Pakenham for trainer Cindy Alderson.

Second dam Pallid (Marauding) was a Newhaven Park homebred who won races at Randwick and Canterbury as well as earning black-type in the LR Keith Mackay Hcp at Randwick.

Helike won twice at Saint-Cloud and is by Rahy out of a G1 winning half-sister to champion sire Kingmambo (Mr Prospector).

Helike first starter Peron Dunes was placed later in the day at Devonport behind Visual Effects (Man Of Illusion).

The Adam Trinder trained gelding was the fifth placegetter from only seven to of Helike’s progeny to face the starter this season.

Helike who stands for a $2,200 (inc gst) service fee at Armidale.
