HIGH Flying Ruler stamped herself as a rising star when she led all the way to win the SEW Eurodrive Tasmanian Oaks over 2579 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight (Sunday).

With her trainer Rohan Hillier in the sulky, High Flying Ruler showed brilliant early speed to lead from gate three and she then held out a determined challenge from interstate invader Machabiba (Chris Alford) all the way up the home straight.

High Flying Ruler (Jet Laag-Northern Ruler) hit the line 1-1/4 lengths clear of Machabiba with Arts Bliss 2-1.4 lengths away third and well clear of Blissfull Grace that worked home well after being held up three-back the fence for most of the race.

The well bred three-year-old filly is owned by Larry Nichols who bred her from his former smart racing mare Northern Ruler that won a dozen races.

The filly has only been lightly raced owing to tendon problems that have to be well managed.

Nichols prepared High Flying Ruler right up to trialling stage but he handed the reins to Hillier as he felt that trainer had better quality training facilities that would suit his filly more than what he had to offer at home.
