Highly sought after Gold Collar Final

26 / 11 / 2012 Article by: Editor

Now restricted to Tasmanian bred greyhounds the Gold Collar is one of the most pursued races on the greyhound calendar. One of Tasmania’s youngest trainers in Rodney Callinan gets his chance to win his first feature race with Diavlo which he part owns with Barry Browning. Based at Dromedary, Rodney is having a good run with his kennel and Diavlo has good form at Mowbray being the only greyhound in the race to break 30 secs.(29.96) for the 515m trip. He is a good beginner and rails well.

His main opposition will come from the Ted Medhurst trained Chosen Jewel and Fair Change which will both be running on strongly. Cruising Bond has very good form for the Gary Johnson kennel but is awkwardly drawn in box seven. She’s A Boomer trained at Bishopsbourne by veteran David Crosswell will run her usual honest race and won her heat in good style. Palooka and Meili for Penguin mentor Butch Deverell are yet to open their winning account and look tested. Megalith is also a maiden from the Gary Johnson team and is a poorly drawn.

The best bet tonight is in race four. Fine Eagle from the Westbury kennel of Jill Stamford is racing well and should appreciate the favourable box draw. Both Flukey Pines (Ted Medhurst) and Jack O’Riley (David Polley) will be prominent.

The value on the card is Mackelroy in race one from the Gary Johnson kennel. He has brilliant early pace and should be at good odds in a very open race.
