IT was only a matter of time before Lakerville had his name etched into the record books.
In Hobart last night (Thursday) his effort to win the tasracing.com.au Stakes over 599 metres produced a track record.
And it was quite a significant record as it was owned by highly promising stayer Lillycette that will contest the Group 1 Association Cup over 720m at Wentworth Park in Sydney on Saturday night.
Lakerville began well from box four and had the lead heading out of the first turn and then powered his way to an effortless 11-3/4 length win over Trudels with Posh Renee over a length away third.
Lakerville has been winning his way around the state over sprint and middle distances and he is starting to achieve the results his trainer Mick Stringer predicted.
“This dog has always had potential but his poor box manners were depriving him of achieving the results like he achieved tonight,” Stringer said.
“His box manners are improving as he showed last week and tonight so if he continues to show consistency from the boxes then the sky might be the limit.”
Lakerville has had nine wins and 11 minor placings from only 21 starts.
“This dog has only missed a place once from 21 starts and you don’t do that unless you have good ability.”
“If he continues to begin well I will probably get him over to Victoria and chase a grade five heat and final over 600 metres at The Meadows and then have a look at something decent because there’s no doubt he has loads of ability.”
“But there’s no rush to get him there,” he said.
