THE eight-race program at Tapeta Park Devonport on Sunday might be a bit light on for runners in the open handicap but the balance of the card is outstanding.
Finding the winner in the first three races won’t be easy but for those who play the exotic bet types there should be some outstanding value.
Anybody who saw the debut run of the Adam Trinder-trained Willow The Wisp will probably want to back up on Sunday and the same will apply to those who backed Sad But True and Laduka last start.
Maybe the best way to go in the opening race is to bank on the three aforementioned runners finishing first or second and take At Top Speed (1), Qui City (5), Gee Gee Miss Bee (7) and Toboggan Sue with that trio for third.
For those who want to stretch the budget a little further should include Kwaboom (3) that is first up from a short spell.
The best bet on the program is Visual Effects that looks well placed in the Sunday Examiner Maiden/Class 1 (race 3) over 1880m.
Visual Effects was fourth in a benchmark 62 event over 1350m two starts back at Spreyton and last Sunday in Hobart the five-year-old mare was doing her best work at the business end of proceedings in a maiden/class 1 over 1600m.
Back on her home track and out to 1880m should be a winning formula for success.
General Quest produced an eye-catching first-up second two weeks ago and he could make it back into the winner’s circle in race four – a class a Handicap over 1350m.
Trainer Glenn Stevenson has booked Jason Maskiell to ride and he should be able to position the gelding in a handy position early from barrier eight.
The Kelvin Hamilton-trained Couple Of Cowboys impressed with a first-up win two weeks ago and he looks set to make it two wins in succession when he steps out in the Sportsbet.com.au Benchmark 68 Handicap over 1000m.
Last start Couple Of Cowboys never left the rains to win comfortably and while this is a step up in grade he would only need not to have gone backward in condition to figure prominently again.
