In Brief

  • Ryan looks to continue where he left off.
  • Devonport program dominated by short price favourites.
  • Dilston trainer could have a big day.

Racing returns to Devonport today and while there’s just six races on the card, some of the state’s most promising sprinters step out to reignite their careers.

And leading the way is Patrick Ryan’s exciting quartet from his Sh Avatar x See Blue’s Girl litter, namely Ava Wine, Savage Victor, Handsome Prince and Splotched.

Back on 30 March, the quartet delivered Ryan the first four placegetters in the Breeders’ Classic Final in Launceston, the result meant to be what was the start of a big few months of racing for the 24-month old sprinters.

And while their careers were put on ice due to the coronavirus shutdown, punters expect the exciting littermates to pick up exactly where they left off at Devonport today.

In race two, Savage Victor is a raging hot $1.30 favourite with Ladbrokes to score from box eight over the 452 metres, while in race three, Splotched has been installed a firm $1.90 favourite from her box one draw.

The fourth event of the afternoon sees Handsome Prince (box three) pitted up against Ava Wine (box six), the brother and sister duo dominating betting at $1.90 and $3.10 apiece.

And while Ryan looks set to play a strong hand earlier in the program, the Dilston trainer also rugs up favourite Ned Isakoff in the final event of the afternoon.

Quoted $1.80 in morning betting over Devonport Cup runner-up Leica Prayer at $4.40, Ned Isakoff is boxed to perfection in the red and boasts seven wins from 10 appearances at the Devonport circuit.

Racing gets underway today at 13:27 where the raging hot favourite is Winklee Terror from box four for trainer Edward Howard.

The son of Melbourne Cup winner Ando’s Mac won his maiden in Launceston on March 30 in a slick 16.17, strong credentials for today’s assignment.
