HUSBAND and wife trainer-breeder combination Ted and Ann Howard have been breeding greyhounds for a long tome and finally they have struck gold.
The Howards bred their broodbitch Winklee Weeper (x Big Daddy Cool) to Cosmic Rumble and the result was a litter of eight of which six have been able to win.
At Tattersall’s Park on Thursday night the litter produced three winners of which two were trained by Ann and one by Ted.
Ann won successive races with Winklea Zipper and Winklea Vestie while Ted prepared Winklea Jedda to win the last race on the 10-event card.
Winklea Zipper produced a sensational effort to win a grade four over 461 metres.
He was squeezed out and spat out the back soon after the start and was a clear last halfway to the top turn while Wee Fire speared to the lead and held a commanding advantage when she hit the home straight.
But Winklea Zipper weaved his way through the field and had the leader in his sights on straightening and delivered a powerful finishing burst to grab victory right on the line.
Winklea Vestie also was hampered at the start from box seven but he too weaved a safe passage through the field and he chased down the leader Hunter Beven to score by over a length with Maximum Carly three lengths away third.
It was a slightly different story with Winklea Jedda that began well from box four and settled third behind the leader and odds-on favourite Lisheen and What It Shrinks.
Lisheen looked set to win turning for home but he compounded quickly in the home straight and this left Winklea Jedda to storm home and score by a long head from What It Shrinks with the fast-finishing Another Maneater a close-up third.
