LAST SEASON’S Tasmanian three-year-old of the year Iggimacool gets her chance to stamp herself as a genuine Tasmanian carnival contender when she steps out in the WFA Launceston Mitsubishi Conquering over 1400 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight

Iggimacool was outstanding last season winning the Thousand Guineas and the Tasmanian Oaks with a second in the $100,000 Strutt Stakes splitting her two feature race wins.

The Bill Ryan-trained four-year-old mare resumed racing in the Newmarket handicap over 1200m and produced an eye-catching performance to finish fifth and had luck gone her way she could easily have at least been placed.

“I couldn’t be happier with this mare and I’m sure she would have finished a lot closer to the winner in the Newmarket had luck gone her way,” Ryan said.

“She has done everything I’ve asked of her since that run and if she is within striking distance of the leaders turning for home she will be very hard to beat tonight,” Ryan said this afternoon.

“Her work this past week has been outstanding and she couldn’t be any fitter going into this race,” he said.

Iggimacool is quoted at $5.50 along with the Scott Brunton-trained Royal Rapture with his stablemate Banca Mo the favourite at $2.40 ahead of Geegees Blackflash at $4.20.

The Conquering is race six on the eight-event card and is scheduled to start at 9.55 pm (AEST)
