WELL bred four-year-old pacer Safe And Smart shrugged off some poor form to score an impressive all-the-way win in a C1 over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Wednesday night.

With novice driver Justin Howlett in the sulky the gelding showed good gate speed to comfortably hold the front and was not troubled to lead all the way and defeat Deejay Bromac (Braden Howlett) by over four metres with Man Of The Match a distant third.

Safe And Smart had been racing below expectations according to his trainer Carl Ryan.

“There’s no doubt we were concerned about his loss of form but we discovered he may have had a chill in his kidneys so we flushed him out and he’s produced the goods tonight,” Ryan said.
