HARNESS racing’s holy grail, the Inter Dominion, is about to undergo a major facelift that could see the series run at the same venue each year instead of the hosting being shared by eight different clubs in Australia and New Zealand.
The Inter Dominion series has traditionally been run at eight venues on a rotational basis with Tasmania a link in that chain.
But the agreement that binds the Inter Dominion together as we know it expires in 2012 with Queensland the last to host the series under the present agreement.
An Inter Dominion Event Committee has been formed and it, through IDEC secretary Andrew Kelly, has been visiting each state delivering a workshop with industry administrators and club officials in an attempt to glean opinions and views from a broad cross section of the industry on how the Inter Dominion should be run beyond 2012.
Tasmania’s workshop was held today (Thursday) at Campbell Town where Kelly delivered an in-depth analysis of how the Inter Dominion series was in need of change.
He solicited the views of all who attended in an endeavour to draw a clearer picture of how this state feels about preserving the Inter Dominion and its role as a participant.
