TRAINER John Blacker has established his stables at Seymour in Victoria but he still has a few of his stable tenants domiciled at brother Troy Blacker’s yards at Longford.
Sugar Gum is one of those that were left behind but it might not be long before she too makes the trip across Bass Strait given her impressive win in a maiden over 1400m at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today
Sugar Gum (Andrew Mallyon) enjoyed the run of the race on the rail behind the leader and race favourite Scoville.
When rider Craig Newitt allowed Scoville m ore rein nearing the home turn she scooted three lengths clear but when Mallyon called on Sugar Gum (Tough Speed-Tassie Blue Gum) to attack she quickly hauled in the leader and went on to defeat that filly comfortably with Light Of Atlantis third ahead of benefit Of Doubt.
Listen to what caretaker trainer Troy Blacker had to say about Sugar Gum’s win.
