AN interstate trip beckons for brilliant bitch Emerald Lee after she gave her rivals a galloping lesson in the Jetpets Tasmania Oaks at the TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Monday night.
Emerald Lee went into the race as a long odds-on favourite ($1.30) and never gave her backers any cause for alarm.
The Debbie Cannan-trained bitch flew the lids from box seven and after a stoush with Country Bumpkin (1) to the first turn she slipped into third gear down the back stretch.
She was not fully extended to score by 6-1/2 lengths from Tiny Tilly with Buckle Up Gate three lengths astern.
“She’s done a marvellous job for us and I don’t think I’ve had one this consistent,” Cannan said.
“This is her 18th start and she hasn’t missed a place,” she said.
Those were modest comments from the trainer as Emerald Lee boasts the brilliant record of 13 wins and five minor lacings for $42,000 in stakes.
Emerald Lee is no stranger to winning classic races as she also took out the Illingworth Classic, Launceston club’s Breeders Classic final and the Tasmanian Country Oaks at Devonport.
Emerald Lee is owned by Cannan and Ian Sowell.
Cannan purchased Emerald Lee as a three-month-old pup from Gary Greig.
“I sent her away to be broken in and we knew from the first time we trialled her that she had above average ability,” Cannan said.
“The plan is to head to Victoria and give her a start at The Meadows and if she handles the trip then she could d well,” she said.
