WELL bred three-year-old filly Into The Wind (Tough Speed-Dear Friend) was finally rewarded for her consistency with a game win in a 2YO and Upwards maiden over 1200 metres at UBET Park Hobart today.
Into The Wind (Kyle Maskiell) was stuck in the worst going (inside rail) from her barrier three while Broadway Request that drew and outside gate was able to find the lead turning for home and looked set to win at the top of the home straight.
But when young Maskiell aimed his charge to the centre of the rack she released a brilliant turn of foot and went on to defeat Broadway request by a length with More Than Sweet a distant third.
The John Blacker-trained filly had placed second at her four previous outings so it was a deserving victory.
“This filly has been a bit unlucky not to have won before now but better late than never,” Blacker said.
“I think she handled the heavy rack well so we might push on while she’s in this form and have a crack at a class one and then think about giving her a spell,” he said.
