The clash of track specialist Like A Whisper trained by Brendan Purcell at Brighton, up and coming sprinter Olwyn (Ted Medhurst) and the Paul Hili trained Black Nitro, a winner of his only two starts on the track, should attract a better crowd than usual to the track. Like A Whisper has won here in 29.88, Olwyn in 29.86 and Black Nitro in 29.57 before going amiss. The box draw has made the race very interesting with Like A Whisper the one to beat.
The best bet on the program is in race three, Cassomac Levi which is far from the best beginner in the field, should be improved by his recent experience on this track. Trained at Newnham by veteran Doug Cassidy he is coming off a good second to Hellyeah Trish last week when he had very little luck and only just failed. His main dangers appear to be Rose Gold (Brian Crawford) and Brilliant McKool (Ted Medhurst).
The best each way value is in race four. Coming off a good win at Devonport last start and although his first try over 600m Zultan, which is prepared at Richmond by Steve “Elvis” Hutt, gives every indication he will run the trip out very strongly and should be at good odds.
Although beaten in Hobart last Thursday Just as Fancy trained at Westbury by John Shanahan should send punters home on a winning note by saluting in race ten.
