In Brief
- Standing Start specialist ready for N.W.T.L.H.A Mares Feature.
- Meeting closed to the general public.
- First race at 17:32.
It will be a different feeling at the Burnie Paceway tonight when the Burnie Harness Racing Club stages a closed race meeting.
Only essential race day personnel and licensed participants will be allowed entry to the seven-race card.
The feature race on the program is the N.W.T.L.H.A Mares Feature where the Brett Jaffray- trained Island Bliss will be looking to bounce back into the winner’s list for the second time this year.
Her most recent win was at St Mary’s on 1 January, the daughter of Roll With Joe generally has brilliant standing start manners which has seen her win two races with three placings to her credit from 10-starts this season.
Four of her seven wins have been in standing start races.
At her most recent effort, Island Bliss finished fifth in Devonport on Sunday where she finished nine metres behind the winner Jakes A Joy.
On that occasion, she settled one-out and three-back and was driven for luck on the pegs over the final lap where she only got clear room late in the race.
Tonight’s event is restricted to mares that are four-years-old and above with a national rating of 50 to 69, where Kissing Game is the sole 10-metre handicapped runner.
The Adrian Duggan-trained mare will be driven by Gareth Rattray, and the mare was second behind Amendment Thirteen in Hobart on Saturday after enjoying a lovely three-wide trail over the final lap.
Kissing Game has had two standing start races, and she stepped cleanly at St Mary’s on 1 January before being tardy away in Hobart four-starts ago.
Ladbrokes have Statement Please as the favourite at $2.80 from Mavis Merle at $3.00, Ideal Bliss at $6.00, Amazing Daisy at $9.00 and Kissing Game who has been backed in from $14 into $9.50.
The N.W.T.L.H.A Mares Feature is race four on the card and is set down for 18:59.
The first race commences at 17:32 and will be televised on Sky Racing 2 and live-streamed on TasracingTV.
