TASMANIAN reinsman James Rattray wrote his name in the record books when he became the first Tasmanian to drive a winner in the US.
Rattray partnered the Noel Daley-trained Brokaw to victory at the Freehold Raceway on Saturday (April 17) to register his first win as stable driver.
Rattray spent three months in the US with Daley last year and when he returned home in November he decided to pursue his career overseas and set about securing a permanent visa to work with the Daley stable that is based in New Jersey.
His first winner came from only a handful of drives forthe stable.
Brokaw started the second favourite and proved too strong for a quality field, clocking a mile rate of 1.55.3 on the New Jersey circuit.
“It was terrific getting that first winner over here,” Rattray said.
