ONE of Tasmania’s best open class pacers Our Sir Jeckyl convinced his connections that he is back to his best when he scored an emphatic win in a free-for-all over 2200 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last Sunday night.

Our Sir Jeckyl sat back in the field and when driver Ricky Duggan released the brakes the gelding scorched around the field and went on to score convincingly from Saab Quality and Gettysburg Address.

The seven-year-old’s trainer Tony Petersen was thrilled with the horse’s effort and heaved a sigh of relief after the race.

“I haven’t been happy with the horse but that’s more like it,” Petersen said.

“Up until now he hasn’t shown his normal dash – he’s just been laboring away.”

“The question tonight was whether he’d put it all together and he did – he really dashed home,” he said.

The $20,000 City Of Launceston Cup in a fort night is Our Sir Jeckyl’s main mission prior to the Tasmania Cup on New Year Eve but he won’t be tackling next week’s Danbury Park Cup.

“If they hadn’t put this race on tonight I would have had no option but to go to the Danbury Park Cup in which he would have been off a very tough handicap, because he would have needed another run before the City of Launceston Cup.”

“But that won’t be necessary now so he’ll be straight onto the City of Launceston Cup and he’ll be suited to that race because it’s over 2600m and he’s won over that trip wining an Easter Cup,” he said.
