STAR Tasmanian pacer Our Sir Jeckyl sounded a warning to all other Easter Cup aspirants when he scored an emphatic win in the Metropolitan Cup over 2579 metres in Hobart on Sunday night.
Our Sir Jeckyl (Ricky Duggan) allowed his charge to settle beyond midfield from a wide gate (6) and he waited until the bell lap to make his move.
A solid pace was set by Saab Quality (Todd Rattray) with interstate invader Griz Wyllie (Tony Pullicino) at his wheel.
When the gelded son of Our Sir Vancelot was eased three-wide to challenge he quickly moved to the leaders and when Duggan called on him for the big effort in the straight he casually strode clear and went on to score by 2-1/2 metres from Hood Winked with Saab Quality hanging on for third 6-1/2 metres away.
Our Sir Jeckyl’s part-owner Jamie Cockshutt said the gelding would have his next start in a heat of the Easter Cup in Launceston next Sunday night.
Our Sir Jeckyl won the 2010 Easter Cup but the gelding is a more mature pacer these days and his form going into the 2012 edition of the race is better than it was two years ago.
Our Sir Jeckyl’s trainer Tony Petersen has done a magnificent job preparing the gelding for what will be his fourth Easter Cup.
