STAR Tasmanian three-year-old pacer Jerrys Jet continued on his winning way at UBET Racing Centre in Launceston last Sunday night where he toyed with his rivals to win the McKillop Insurance Pace over 2200 metres.
It was a relatively strong C4-C6 line-up with Palmisano showing his customary early speed to lead while Jerrys Jet’s trainer-driver Rohan Hillier allowed the three-year-old to face the breeze but well away from the leader so as to not get his charge fired up.
The ploy worked perfectly as nothing came around to disrupt Hillier’s plan and when he called on Jerrys Jet to extend in the home straight the gelded son of Jeremes Jet claimed the leader and went on to score by over six metres from Palmisano with Aninchofhislife an eye-catching third 1.5 metres away.
Hillier said there was never a moment when he had to get really busy on his stable star.
“The plan was to lead but when Palmisano led and cleared out I thought we could just sit off him and ensure by horses didn’t get too fired up,” Hillier said.
“I was on a $1.20 chance so I had to give him the easiest run possible and in the end it was probably his best since he’s been with me.”
“To go out and do what he did against older and much more experienced horses is a real credit to him.”
“When he gets to open class next season that’s when we’ll see the best of this horse,” he said.
Jerrys Jet has won seven of his eight starts this season and has taken his career win tally to 12 from 14 lifetime starts for just over $90,000 in stakes.
