THE connections of Genuine Lad are likely to stick with the plan to run last season’s Betfair Launceston Cup winner in the JRA Cup over 2040 metres at Moonee Valley on Friday night instead of The Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington on Sunday.
Genuine Lad’s owner Maurice mace confirmed today that the preference is to run in the JRA Cup but the barrier draw could yet determine which wat they go.
Genuine Lad stepped up from 1400 metres at his first start for Robert Smerdon in late August to 2000 metres last start in the Group 3 Foundation Cup at Caulfield two weeks ago.
“Robert (Smerdon) was really pleased with his run in 6the Foundation Cup considering he was stepping up so quickly from 1400m,” Mace said.
“The acceptances for both races this weekend are done this morning so we will analyse things after we see the fields and the barrier draws and make our final decision later today but if he draws a good gate we are more than likely going to run in the JRA Cup,” he said.
Craig Williams has told connections he would ride Genuine Lad in the JRA Cup.
