WHEN Tasmanian-bred gelding Kenjorwood first stepped foot in the stables of top Victorian trainer Peter Moody he wasn’t impressed by what he saw in the first couple of months.
But as time passed the horse grew on him and after he delivered a brilliant performance to win the Shoot Out Mile at Randwick last Saturday the wily trainer is about to raise the bar.
Kenjorwood’s Randwick win took the gelding’s stake earnings to close to $400,000 which is a handy result for a $40,000 but at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Moody now believes Kenjorwood is capable of contesting some feature Listed and better quality races during the early spring, so the five-year-old has been sent for a short spell.
“Peter (Moody) said there will be plenty of money on offer (early spring) as the fields are generally not that big at that time of the new season and he hasn’t discounted taking him back to Sydney,” said part-owner Darren Kenny.
Talented young Victorian apprentice rider Reagan Bayliss was aboard Kenjorwood last Saturday to give the rider his first taste of success on a Sydney metropolitan track.
Bayliss has struck a great relationship with Kenjorwood as the gelding also was successful for him at Flemington and Caulfield.
