One of greyhound racing’s most popular races is the highlight of tonight’s racing at the Mowbray Racing Centre.
A feature for female greyhounds, the race has attracted a strong field after two heats were conducted last Monday with the first four in each heat going into tonight’s final.
Rowella trainer Terry Penny has drawn the coveted red box with the outstanding Clyde’s Angel and she should be ready to put her best foot forward. She has won sixteen races and $59,000 in stakemoney in very strong company. Both heat winners in Wynburn Diamond, which has won fourteen races and $26,000 in stakes is trained at Wynyard by Scott Bryan, and Hellyeah Stella, a winner of thirteen races and $25,000 in stakes is trained at Exeter by Anthony ”Darkie” Bullock, will offer strong opposition. Irinka Julia trained at Zeehan by Joe Pringle has a lot of early pace but finds the 515 metre trip very hard to run out, but she could be the early leader. If the Rod Ransley trained Jennifer Ellen gains a start she will run a bold race.
The best bet is New Recruit in race seven. Trained at Mangalore by Mickey Stringer he is racing at his peak and should find the opposition not as strong as he has at recent starts. He should be good enough to overcome the five box. Buckle Up Myke (Gary Johnson) and To Be Trew (Susan Gittus) should be hardest to beat.
The value runner tonight is in race ten. Winklee Venus trained at Winkleigh by Patricia Howard is knocking on the door and gets the chance to break through.
