STAR Tasmanian mare Lady Lynette returned to her brilliant best to win the $100,000 Carlton Draught Vamos Stakes over 1400m at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.

The David and Scott Brunton-trained mare was coming off a first-up second to rising star Rebel Bride in the Group 3 $150,000 Bow Mistress Stakes (1200m) in Hobart 10 days ago but back to her pet distance and her favourite track she turned the tables on Rebel Bride.

It was an exciting race with a solid pace set by Avionics that led the field to the home turn.

Craig Newitt had Rebel Bride poised to pounce in the one-out line for most of the race and when he released the reins at the top of the straight she burst clear and looked set to claim the mares feature double.

But just when she was being declared the winner Lady Lynette and her younger stablemate Buzzing Along began to close the gap and so rapidly did they finish they both headed Rebel Bride in the shadows of the post with Lady Lynette poking her head out on the line to win by a half-head.

It was a brilliant race and it was a fitting result as it reaffirmed Lady Lynette as the genuine queen of the Tasmanian turf and it also left no doubt that her three-year-old stablemate Buzzing Along has the makings of a star performer on the national stage.

Lady Lynette took her career earnings to $1.1255 million with her record now standing at 15 wins and 17 placings from 48 starts.

Rebel Bride was game in defeat and she will now go to the paddock for a well earned spell while Lady Lynette could find her way back to Victoria for some selected mares races.
