STAR mare Lady Lynette still holds the title of queen of the Tasmanian Turf despite having colours lowered by the heiress apparent Rebel Bride in the Group 3 Bow Mistress Stakes over 1200m in Hobart on Derby Day.

In Launceston tonight (Wednesday) Lady Lynette will be attempting to win her third $100,000 Listed Vamos Stakes over 1400 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre but she will again be up against Rebel Bride and two interstate mares, Avionics and Impulsive Dream, that finished behind that duo in the Bow Mistress 10 days ago.

Lady Lynette was first-up from a five-month break from racing in the Bow Mistress and did a remarkable job to finish the race off as she did, while Rebel Bride was having her seventh start this preparation and it was her sixth win.

Lady Lynette doesn’t have to win tonight to retain her Queen status but if Rebel Bride wins and with some authority there’s no doubt the connections will be asking if their mare can at least be given an opportunity to try the crown for size.

Rebel Bride was awesome in the Bow Mistress scoring by over two lengths but this is a real test tonight as she steps up in distance and moves into Lady Lynette’s comfort zone.

The David and Scott Brunton-trained Lady Lynette has taken on the best interstate and emerged triumphant in feature mares’ races on the national stage and so successful has she been that her career stake earnings has topped $1 million.

No doubt Rebel Bride is a star in her own right and is a credit to trainer Leon Wells and owner Chris Wickham who does most of the work with the four-year-old mare.

Wickham spent about 20 years working for Tasmanian Racing Hall of Fame Legend Len Dixon so he is no slouch in the horsemanship arena.

If either of the Tasmanian mares emerges triumphant in the Vamos tonight the big winner will be Tasmanian racing.

The last four races on the program will be broadcast in France with the Vamos Stakes sure to be acknowledged as a worthy feature race to be broadcast on the global stage – for the full story on Tasmanian race meetings being broadcast globally .
