OWNERS Alan and Jenny Johnson may have struck pay-dirt with their first-time investment Lander Dollar’s courageous win in a maiden at Tattersall’s Park inHobarttoday.
Lander Dollar (Snowland-Dollar Dollie) showed good early speed to lead and when joined by the well-backedHotham Street(Kelvin Sanderson) 500 metres out he retained a solid rhythm.
When asked for an effort over the final 200 metres the David and Scott Brunton-trained gelding dug deep and went on to defeatHotham Streetby almost a half-length with Kissaway a distant third and just ahead of Gee Gees Firstover.
Lander Dollar was purchased at aMelbournesale by his co-trainer David Brunton who has a great eye for a horse and this is further testament to his prowess as a good judge of horse flesh.
Lander Dollar’s sire Snowland has been retired due to a fertility problem so this gelding is one of his last crop.
