BRENDAN PURSELL could not have wished for a better chaser to kick-start his career as a greyhound trainer than Lika Whisper.

The former NSW dog arrived at Pursell’s Brighton kennels only a month after he was granted his trainer’s licence about a year ago.

In that time Lika Whisper has gone from a grade four performer to one of the state’s most consistent top grade sprinters.

The dog has won 12 and been placed nine times from his 25 Tasmanian starts and has earned close to $40,000.

Lika Whisper has taken all before him since he landed in Pursell’s care.

The trainer’s son Blake and the dog are almost inseparable and what the bonding has also managed to do is bring father and son closer together and that in itself is a priceless asset.

In Launceston on Monday night Lika Whisper lined up in an invitation over 515 metres at what was only his fifth outing on the circuit.

It was a great result with the dog flying the lids and then proceeded to run his rivals ragged.

His splits of 5.00 seconds and 17.64s ensured it was going to take a track record to beat him and his closing stage was strong enough to hold out Wynburn Diamond and Decembrist at the business end of the race.
