TALENTEDÂ staying greyhound Lillycette is one win away from representing Tasmania at the National Distance Championship following an impressive win in Launceston last night.
Lillycette demolished a small field of five in a best-eight race over 720 metres that acted as a substitute for a National Distance Championship prelude owing to insufficient nominations to stage state heats of the national event.
Lillycette began brilliantly from box three to lead and once on the lure she gave nothing else a chance.
The Ted Medhurst-trained bitch powered to the line to score comfortably from Midnight Bird with Frosty’s Capable making up good ground in the home straight to finish a close-up third ahead of Miss Somebody.
Lillycette has been tried interstate and while she hasn’t set the world alight she has been very competitive and if she wins next week’s state final she will be a worthy representative in the national final to be held at Wentworth Park later this month.
Her kennel mate Mandy Charm was well tried but when she was unable to lead she faded and finished a long last.
However she will no doubt go around in next week’s state heat and a good draw could put her in contention
