TALENTED Tasmanian greyhound Lillycette will be tested at the top level in Sydney on Saturday night when she lines up in a heat of the Association Cup over 720 metres at Wentworth Park.
The Ted Medhurst-trained bitch has been quietly going about her business in staying events in Tasmania and last Saturday night she proved she was worthy of a chance to match it with the best stayers in the country when she delivered a stellar performance to win a race at The Meadows over 725 metres.
“She has been impressive in winning races over 720 metres at home in Launceston but we needed to see if she was up to racing at a higher level by putting her in that race at The Meadows (725m),” Medhurst said.
“She had to win well to progress further and she did that so we nominated for the Association Cup heats hoping to gain a start and she got in so I’m rapt,” he said.
Lillycette has drawn box four in the first Association Cup heat (race two) on Saturday night.
The well-bred bitch has won half of her 34 starts with nine minor placings for over $40,000 in stakes with a few feature race wins included in her impressive CV.
She is very versatile as she is just as capable over the sprint journeys but Medhurst is confident her real future is in staying events.
The last top line stayer to dominate from the Medhurst was Bell Haven that contested most of the Group 1 straying events around Australia two years ago.
