Dual Code trainer Stephen Lockhart will be hoping his only standardbred in work, Rocket Blaster, can bounce back to racing from a brief let up with a win in Hobart on Sunday night.

The Caribbean Blaster gelding has won two of his past five outings, the most recent effort was a victory off a 20-metre handicap at Carrick Park on 8 January.

“We just kept finding the right races for him, and then I gave him a week off after his last run as he had five runs in five weeks, which is a bit unusual for me,” said trainer Stephen Lockhart.

The trainer and part-owner is happy with how the gelding has returned and how the pacer has performed since a trial on 1 February.

“He has come back nice, and he had a nice trial behind Resurgent Storm in Hobart recently and has trained on nicely since,” said Lockhart.

Rocket Blaster has come up with barrier four in Sunday’s final event on the program, a trainers encouragement pace for horses with a national rating of 50 to 59 with Rocket Blaster getting into the field courtesy of the five-point concession claim for Matthew Cooper.

“It is a nice race in the program for him tonight, he will roll forward from four, and I would imagine he will be outside the leader or in the one-one,” said Lockhart who only has the one pacer along with two gallopers in his care.

“I only want three or four in work at any time as it allows me to be hands-on with them all,” said the trainer.

Sunday night’s nine-race card commences with an intriguing trotters event at 5:17 pm.
