MANGALORE trainer Allan Anderson believes the debut win by Trezza Green in Hobart last Thursday night had more to do with the luck that is shining on his kennel of late than ability possessed by the well-bred pup.
Anderson’s staying bitch Lashing Jill outgunned star Tasmanian stayer Bell Haven in Launceston last week to earn the right to represent Tasmania in the AGRA National Distance Championship over 735 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.
It was clearly Anderson’s biggest win as a trainer and should Lashing Jill reproduce the form that took her to victory in the state final she will give them something to chase in the National final.
But it appeared winning a juvenile in Hobart had just as much significance to the veteran trainer.
Trezza Green began well from box four and despite being joined by the highly fancied Lonesome Knight at the top of the home straight Anderson’s bitch fought on like a caged lion to score in a head-bobbing finish.
“When your luck’s in the wins usually keep flowing,” Anderson said.
“Everything went our way with Lashing Jill in the state distance final so I’m hoping the luck keeps shining on us for another week and a bit,” he said.
Trezza Green (Droopys Kewell-White Fingers) showed plenty of early speed to lead from box four and then showed courage over the concluding stages to win by a nose from Lonesome Knight with Mega Daenerys only a neck away third.
Lonesome Knight was having only her second start and while she appeared to have every chance there is still improvement in her, according to trainer Rod Ransley.
“At her debut last week she drew box one and al she wanted to do was get to the middle of the track and tonight from box seven she just wanted to get to the rail,” Ransley said.
“Ï trial her from box four so maybe that’s what she needs to draw to win.”
“She is learning all the time so there’s no doubt she will win races,” he said.
Lonesome Knight doesn’t have a female name but that is thanks to one of the part-owners who submitted the masculine moniker that was surprisingly accepted by the registrar.
