BRIGHTON trainer John Luttrell celebrated an early double at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today where Frinja and Umpire both scored impressive wins.
Frinja had been placed at his past three starts but with in-form apprentice Ismail Toker in the saddle the former Victorian galloper proved too good for his rivals scoring comfortably from the Royston Carr-trained Rest Upon and Wunghnu for Spreyton trainer Dean Wells.
Umpire settled last in the small field of seven but when the pace slackened 800m out some riders lost patience and sent their charges around the field to challenge for the lead but Umpire’s rider Rhonda Mangan was content to bide her time.
It proved to be a winning move as her horse produced a powerful finishing burst to score running away from Decent Deal and the winner’s stablemate Our Anna.
