TRAINER Mick Stringer predicted some time back that Magpie Lomar would make his mark in Tasmania and in Hobart last Thursday night he lived up to those expectations.
Magpie Lomar lined up in a grade five event over 599 metres and was sent out the $1.40 favourite after opening at better than even money.
He carried the pink vest and wasn’t the best away but after travelling only 50 metres he mustered incredible speed to cross to the rails and once on the lure he sped clear and increased his margin at every turn. He hit the line 16 lengths clear of Big Jack Sparrow with Prince Mattan a close-up third.
The son of Pure Octane-Lara’s Hope produced sensational splits and collected the track record by stopping the clock at 34.41 to outdo Akka Boy and Instant Rockstar’s record of 34.446.
“This dog showed me a lot of potential when he arrived in the kennel and he has continued to improve,” Stringer said.
Ï was very confident about him winning tonight and to get a track record was a bonus,”he said.
Magpie Lomar has now won 12 of his 28 starts for Stringer with a half-dozen minor placings contributing towards his Tasmanian stake earnings of $16,000.
