Consistent three-year-old pacer Major Rules was rewarded for his consistency with an overdue win in a heat of the Allen Williams Memorial harness racing series at Scottsdale tonight (Friday).
Major Rules ($10.80) went into the race with three seconds next to his name but with an outside second row draw on the tight Scottsdale circuit Punters were prepared to risk him despite his good recent form.
Jive Kicks stepped cleanly from the standing start and had no trouble finding the lead, while Major Rules (Michael Castles) had his charge well placed midfield before making a charge a lap from home to sit outside the leader.
When Castles called on his charge for the supreme effort on the home turn he dug deep and went on to score comfortably from Jive Kicks with Crombie Bay third.
It was Major Rules’ first win from 16 tries but he has paid his way with eight minor placings.
The gelding is prepared at Latrobe by John Castles.
