BROADMARSH trainer Brendan McShane was more than happy when his former South Australian-based galloper Little Bit Of Joy dead-heated for first with Delago Wood in the maiden/class one handicap over 1600 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today (Sunday).
Normally McShane would be modestly satisfied at best with having to share first prize but that one of his best friends is a part-owner who has not been in the best of health of late, he relished the half-a-win.
Little Bit Of Joy produced a powerful finish to hit the line in sync with the Gary White-trained Delago Wood that shared the lead from the half-way mark and ,looked to have the race in his keeping until Little Bit Of Joy unleashed her challenge.
The mare is owned by a syndicate including Irishman David Medbury who helped McShane when he was sent to Ireland as a teenager to gain experience at one of that country’s top studs.
Little Bit Of Joy had 17 starts in SA for eight minor placings on provincial tracks and this was her third start in Tasmania.
