BATTLING mare Thirtysixtoes made the most of a mishap to notch an encouraging win in a heat of the Eric Reece Memorial over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.
Thirtysixtoes enjoyed the run of the race behind the leader and race favourite Daytime Jerry to the home turn and when the leader kicked clear driver Simon Ford eased his charge off the fence to challenge.
However Thirtysixtoes’ run appeared to have peaked about 100 metres out, leaving Daytime Jerry with what looked a comfortable margin.
But the leader went into a break that handed the race to Thirtysixtoes.
The mare is trained at Brighton by Greg Scott who was delighted with the win.
“I was rapt with this win and while it looked like she may have been a bit lucky to win she was overdue,” Scott said.
