TALENTED Longford apprentice Kyle Maskiell has fallen foul of the whip rules again and been suspended for a month.

He has also been referred to the apprentice riding skills panel and will be limited to four rides a meeting when he returns.

The latest suspension followed Maskiell’s winning ride on Bitter Dan at Spreyton on Sunday.

Chief steward Anthony O’Connell said Maskiell used the whip in a forehand manner eight times before the 100-metre mark.

The limit is five times.

‘‘He has been suspended five times, fined three times and reprimanded once under this rule, all this calendar year,’’ O’Connell said.

Maskiell’s suspension takes in the next four Tasmanian meetings and ends at midnight on September 20.

His four-rides-a-meeting limit will then run until October 17.

There was a submission that Maskiell ride without carrying a whip but, although stewards can make that ruling at their discretion, it is considered a safety risk.
