LONGFORD apprentice Kyle Maskiell will be out of action for three weeks after being suspended twice while riding at the Swan Hill carnival in Victoria last week.
On Friday, Maskiell pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge and was suspended for nine meetings.
That penalty will run from midnight on April 9 until midnight on April 18.
Then on Saturday, he was suspended for a further 13 meetings for the eighth whip-related offence of his short career.
He will start that penalty at midnight on June 18 and finish at midnight on June 30.
During his two-day visit, Maskiell was also fined $600 for a separate whip-related offence, another $200 for not riding a horse out to the finish and he also rode a winner.
Tasmania’s chief steward Anthony O’Connell said on Monday he was yet to hear from his Victorian counterparts with regard to any recommendation on Maskiell’s licence.
O’Connell has previously stated that any further whip offences, in the short term, would see Maskiell’s licence revoked and he would be referred to the apprentice skills’ panel.
