The Tasmanian Racing Appeal Board released its decision in relation to an appeal by jockey Stephen Maskiell against a three (3) month suspension of his jockey’s licence under AR135 (b) of the Rules of Thoroughbred Racing in relation to his ride on I Said in a race at Elwick on January 16.
Maskiell was found guilty of “failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that his horse was given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field”.
The offence occurred during Race 8 at the meeting conducted by the Tasmanian Racing Club on Sunday, 16 January 2011.
The appeal against conviction was heard by the Board on Thursday, 3 February 2011 and was dismissed.
The appeal against penalty was heard by the Board today (Friday, 11 February) and was reduced to a two (2) month suspension.
Maskiell’s suspension commenced at midnight on 30 January 2011 and will conclude at midnight on 31 March 2011.
