TASMANIA’S multiple premiership-winning jockey Brendon McCoull will win his 14th title this season and just to make a certainty of it he rode five winners from seven rides at the meeting at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.
McCoull had a day out scoring on Concrete Johnny, Golden Aces, Mundine, Havana Stash and Spy Wears Prado to equal his best haul at a day race meeting in Tasmania.
It is the fourth time McCoull has notched a handful of winners.
At 40 years of age McCoull still has a few years to go before he considers retiring from the saddle but constant struggles with keeping his weight down will most likely mean a premature end to what has already been a magnificent riding career.
McCoull has ridden 77 winners so far this season to be over 20 wins clear of his nearest rival David Pires (56-1/2) who also has had a stellar season with apprentice Bulent Muchu third with 48 winners.
His ride to win aboard Spy Wears Prado was classic McCoull and that also applied to the way he handled Mundine.
What made the five-win haul a little more unique is that his winners came from different trainers – Terry Evans (Concrete Johnny); John Keys (Golden Aces); George Blacker (Mundine); David & Scott Brunton (Havana Stash) and Dianne Ray-Luttrell (Spy Wears Prado).
