TOP Tasmanian jockey Brendon McCoull celebrated another great season by winning his 14th Tasmanian jockeys’ premiership.
McCoull rode 80 winners, which was seven more than he collected the previous season.
He enjoyed success in multiple feature races but the most significant was his win aboard Black ‘N’ Tough in the Newmarket Handicap which is one of the few feature races on the calendar he had not won heading into this season.
David Pires finished second with 58 winners which was a career best for the former Victorian who now calls Tasmania home.
Pires’ most significant win was board Isibaeva in the Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy in Hobart on Derby Day and his alignment with premier father-son training duo David and Scott Brunton late in the season assisted with his rise in premiership standings.
Apprentice Bulent Muhcu finished third on 52 to easily win the apprentices title.
Muhcu’s riding skills went to another level midway through the season and his biggest win came in the $100,000 Devonport Cup when he led all the way aboard the Shirley Berger-trained Red Eagle.
