TASMANIA’S multiple premiership-winning jockey Brendon McCoull will return to race riding at Tapeta Park Spreyton on Sunday after spending almost three months on the sidelines with a broken collarbone and cracked shoulder blade.

McCoull suffered the injuries when he crashed to the turf in a race at Mowbray in mid January after a horse he was riding broke down soon after crossing the finish line.

When he was first diagnosed he was advised he had only broken his collar bone but further examination of the X-rays at a much later date revealed ha also suffered a hairline break in his shoulder blade that led to a longer recovery process..

McCoull has been riding trackwork for the past week and at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart yesterday he rode at the trials.

He admitted after riding the David and Scott Brunton-trained Manhattan Rose into third place in an early trial that he had a “bit of a blow” while returning the mare to the horse stalls.
