Broadmarsh trainer Brendan McShane prepared lightly raced five-year-old Who Decides to win a maiden over 1400 metres after which he described as: “an old horse that nobody likes and I don’t like him much either.”

Who Decides was bred by popular Brighton-based trainer Royston Carr who races the gelding in partnership with former harness trainer Darcy Balcombe and it was Balcombe’s first thoroughbred winner.

“Royston had had enough of the horse’s antics and he had a few other issues so he asked me to take him and see what I could do and here we are with a win at is fourth start him,” McShane said.

“He has taken a while to come to terms with racing but believe it or not I reckon there are more wins in him,” he said.

Who Decides was well ridden by Brendon McCoull who had the gelding placed second throughout and when he asked the five-year-old for the supreme effort in the home straight he eventually ground down the leader to win by a neck.
