Mental as Ben (R1) should get punters off to a great start on a strong ten event card at Tattersall’s Park tonight.

The son of Cosmic Rumble, prepared at Rosevale by Ricky Martin, won well off this box (1) at Launceston at his last start clocking 29.98.

While he has been a shade disappointing on the Hobart track at previous attempts he would only have to replicate his run in Launceston to be very hard to beat.

Cosmic Rumble’s kennelmate and litter brother Cosmic Fire, trained by Sonia Martin. will probably start favourite and provide the main opposition while Cream Cheese from the Peter Phillips kennel looks next best but at big odds.

Nicholas Jack (Race 7) is back from South Australia and returned to the Medhurst kennel. The dog will appreciate being back on the Hobart circuit where he has produced sensational efforts and he is perfectly boxed in eight.

Nicholas Jack is a great each-way chance in the first leg of the double.

His main danger is the speedy Fulande that is likely to lead, while King of Spin ran a nice race last week and may pay to follow.

Immortal (Race 9) for Broadmarsh trainer Keith Nichols was disappointing when odds on at his last outing at Devonport when unplaced however with the coveted rails alley (1) and not an overly strong grade four field with which to contend, he looks an ideal each-way proposition.

Sonorous is better than his form suggests while Whodat Lass won well first up, so they should be included in exotic bet types.

Best Bets: R4 No 5 Fantastic Emma, R7 No 8 Nicholas Jack, R10 No 2 Trezza Green.
Best E/W: R1 No 1 Mental As Ben, R6 No 8 Queen of Speed, R9 No 1 Immortal.
